Prestigious yellow Nembro Marble High Relief depicting St. George on horseback and the dragon, worked and carved by hand. Peculiar for the presence of the iron spear.
Legend has it that this saint killed the monster as the latter killed people with its breath, asking citizens to convert and be baptized in return.
The work comes from a private collection from the city of Venice; it was paired with another depicting St. Michael (they were often depicted together).
Of note is the attention to detail and detail (incredible fineness of the face, hands, horse and robes), the majesty of the creation conveys strength and light.
The veining and patina of the marble is superfine, a true Bomboniera.
